Southern CT presents Annual Haitian Health Fair
Local Health Fair Celebrates Culture and Community
The Annual Haitian Health Fair will take place on Saturday June 25, 2016 from 10am to 2pm at the Lathon Wider Community Center, located at 34 Woodland Ave. Stamford, CT 06902.
In a continuous effort to fight the barriers of accessing quality health care, Optimus Health Center has partnered with The Community Action Agency of Western Connecticut and the Foundation of Hope to bring community members a culturally tailored health fair for the Haitian population of Fairfield County. There will be free medical screening tests, and information from local health professionals, businesses, and agencies. All are welcome and translation assistance will be provided.
Optimus Health Center has been offering health care options to the medically underserved populations of Southwestern CT for the past 35 years. Services provided include but are not limited to preventive, primary care, supplemental health care services, and health education. It is the mission of Optimus Health “to improve the overall health of our communities…in a culturally sensitive manner regardless of one’s ability to pay.” Visit Optimus at optimushealthcare.org.
For over 50 years, The Community Action Agency of Western Connecticut, Inc. (CAAWC) has provided social services and programs to low-income individuals and families in western Connecticut to help them stabilize and improve their lives. Services include: case management, employment and education assistance, energy assistance, and job skills training. For more information please contact us at (203) 602-8833 or visit CAAWC at www.caawc.org.
The Foundation of Hope is a non-profit organization whose mission is to collaborate with charitable organizations to help bring local awareness to the subjects of disaster relief, medical assistance and humanitarian aid with particular attention to children and education. The Foundation of Hope recognizes the importance of helping our community maintain a health conscious lifestyle and we are glad to be a part of the Haitian Health Fair. Visit www.InspireGiveHope.com for additional information.
Following the health fair we would like to work with the different ministries to make sure that we can have a diabetes educator partner up with a Haitian nurse that worship at the church to teach on the importance of managing diabetes and we will track the progress.
